Drills and Warm Up

Can’t say I have much luck with this one, primarily because neither teams or players have regular pre game warm ups. But one (good) thing about being old is that you don’t have the luxury to just turn up and play, well you don’t when you are carrying as many long terms injuries as I am.

Pre nets, training and games I go through my daily routine of stretching which are bases around losing up the main areas of the body used in cricket.

I then aim to go through the following drills before training, nets or game:

Bowling: I do three stationary balls to ensure the mechanics are working as I want, followed by three bowled of a 3 step walk, and finally 3 bowled of my regular run up. I then bowl an over from round the wicket, followed by an over over the wicket.

Batting: I like to have a dozen throw downs played off the front foot, a dozen off the back foot and 6 pull shots to ensure I am keeping eye on ball, playing the all late and getting my hands through the ball.

Fielding: I go through a series of drills which include long barrier, attacking the ball, turning and chasing the ball, short and long throws, a variety of catches …. and standing with my hands in my pockets
