There is a great article on The New Indian Express site featuring Roberta Moretti Avery (@MorettiAvery) covering the growth of the Brazil women’s cricket team through a Crowdfunding campaign, a turning point meeting Charlotte Edwards (England) and Suzie Bates (New Zealand), and their latest initiative ‘Cricket Like A Girl’, which is about a softball tournament for kids from the projects in Poços de Caldas, the city where Roberta is from. The tournament will have 10-12 teams with each team mentored by a contracted national cricketer. The aim of the programme is to increase participation and make sure that young girls are getting the opportunity to play and stay in the game.
Really like the mentoring element as that is something we have been advocating for a while now: Professional Cricketers in England to be associated with local clubs to develop the women’s game, and of course we are big fans of Roberta and are honoured that she has lent her support to our own Girls and Women’s Team project.
