ECB Coaching Courses

One of the things we are keen to do at NBCC is to make people aware that there are more ways to play cricket that to play the game. Coaching, Scoring, Working on the Ground, Volunteering are all options available to everyone.

If you think you may be interested in Coaching then the ECB have some excellent courses, starting with the basics and working through a pathway to an advanced level. This allows you to learn at your own pace, at a time that is convenient to you (with the online courses) and to take away any concerns you may have about how daunting anything new can sometimes appear.

ECB Support Coach

ECB Support Coach is a new coach development programme consisting of e-learning and face-to-face modules that will help you take your first steps into coaching cricket.

Programme outcomes

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches.

An ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and therefore must be supervised by a qualified cricket coach.

  • Valid ECB DBS.
Further learning opportunities

When qualified:

  • Full membership of the ECB Coaches Association
  • ECB Foundation I Coach or ECB Core Coach.

ECB Foundation I Coach

Coaching is an enormously rewarding, challenging and crucial role in cricket. ECB Foundation I Coach is a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore what coaching looks like, the impact you can have as an ECB Foundation I Coach, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences. By committing yourself to this programme and becoming a qualified coach you will become an important part of the ECB’s coaching family that works together to help players improve, have fun, be safe and learn at every stage of their development.

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to coach cricket sessions that are purposeful, active, safe and enjoyable.

An ECB Foundation I Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

ECB Core Coach

The ECB Core Coach programme is an entry level qualification for coaching cricket in England and Wales alongside ECB Foundation I Coach. The programme is a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore the player-centred planning process, player development, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences. By committing yourself to this programme and becoming a qualified coach you will become an important part of the ECB’s coaching family that works together to help players improve, have fun, be safe and learn at every stage of their development.

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead player-centred coaching sessions.

An ECB Core Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

ECB Advanced Coach

Players need coaches with expertise, support and passion at every stage of their development. At all levels of the game coaches can make a difference to a player’s experience and help them enhance their performance. In 2020, the programme will have a greater online and virtual presence allowing coaches more flexibility in their learning journey. The challenge for all coaches is to learn as they develop, just as players do. Therefore, we have developed a programme that will help you challenge your current coaching practice and further your knowledge and understanding in a variety of areas.

Programme outcomes

This programme has been designed to build on your experiences and give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to help players improve their game as well as developing a wide area of expertise when coaching individuals, units and teams.

  • 6 applied coaching activities completed in own coaching environment
